It's mixed bag of heatwave and cold in HP - IMD

Shimla, Apr 9 (UNI) Indian Meteorological department has predicted mixed bag of heatwave and cold in the state due to changing weather conditions in next 24 hrs.
"Himachal Pradesh is set to experience a mix of extreme weather conditions over the next three days, including snowfall in high-altitude areas, thunderstorms, and an unusual heatwave in some regions," according to IMD.
Lahaul Spiti district which still reeling under cold wave forced it administration to issued a snowfall alert for the valley from April 9 to 13.
Western Disturbance particularly affecting tribal districts like Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, where authorities have advised caution on roads due to slippery conditions may have chances of sudden weather change.
Lahaul-Spiti, which remains vulnerable to sudden snowfall, has been issued a road advisory, urging travellers to avoid unnecessary journeys on NH-003 and other high-altitude routes.
The district recorded a minimum temperature of 3.6°C in Keylong, with light snowfall expected in the next 48 hours.
Despite the snowfall warning, lower regions like Una, Kangra, and Dharamshala experienced unusually high temperatures, with Shimla recording 16°C, which is 5°C above normal.
A heatwave alert was issued for isolated areas, with afternoon temperatures soaring before thunderstorms hit in the evening. Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph and lightning are expected in some parts, including Solan, Mandi, and Bilaspur.
The Western Disturbance over Long. 59°E is influencing the erratic weather. Over the next 48 hours, thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds will continue at isolated places, while higher reaches like Kufri at 11.5°C, Kalpa at 8.2°C, and Manali at 11.9°C may see light snowfall and rain.
Tourists and drivers should avoid high-altitude roads unless necessary, while residents in lower areas should stay prepared for sudden thunderstorms, administration said in the advisory.
The weather is expected to stabilize after April 13, but until then, Himachal Pradesh remains on alert for rapidly changing conditions.

Srinagar, Apr 25 (UNI) Two policemen were injured in an ongoing gunbattle in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Friday.
They said the gunbattle that broke out in the early hours is underway in the Ajas forest of the district.
Officials said a search operation was launched in the forest area following an input. They said as the security forces headed to a hideout , militants opened fire on the troops, triggering a gunbattle.
