Police foils bid to smuggle 1.30 tons beedi leaves to Sri Lanka, 2 held

Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu), April 26 (UNI) The Q branch police thwarted a bid to smuggle 1.30 tonnes of beedi leaves worth Rs 15 lakhs to Sri Lanka via sea route at Veerapandianpattinam near Tiruchendur here on Friday.
Police sources said, acting on specific information, a police team conducted a vehicle check near Veerapandianpattinam railway gate and intercepted a minivan on suspicion.
Upon conducting a checkup, the police seized beedi leaves weighing 1300 kilograms stuffed in 43 gunny bags from the van.
