Two girls charred to death in hostel fire in Madurai

Chennai, Sep 12 (UNI) Two inmates of a girls hostel were charred to death and some others injured in a fire at Katrapalayam area near Periyar bus stand in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu, early on Thursday morning.
Reports received here said the incident occurred at around 0400 hrs at the women's hostel, Visaka.
Acting on information, fire services personnel rushed to the spot, doused the fire and sent the
bodies to the Government Rajaji Hospital for post mortem.
The deceased were identified as Saranya and Parimala, who suffered serious burns and succumbed
in the hospital.
The injured girls were being treated at the hospital.
Police said electric short circuit was said to be the reason for the fire mishap.
As a thick smoke engulfed the hostel, some of the inmates suffered breathing problems and were
treated.
