Bengal Junior doctors serve 72-hour ultimatum to govt on their demands, threaten health strike

Kolkata, Oct 19 (UNI) The protesting junior doctors in West Bengal have served a 72-hour ultimatum to the Mamata Banerjee government to concede their 10-point demands or else they would be forced to go a day-long general health strike on next Tuesday in state and private healthcare facilities across the state, official sources said on Saturday.
The ultimatum was served on Friday night requesting the government to concede all the demands, including removal of state health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam, by Monday or else they and the senior doctors and private hospitals will resort to shut down all the health facilities.
Announcing the general health strike after meeting with the senior doctors' different forum, West Bengal Junior Doctors Front's spokesman Dr Debashish Haldar said they were forced to go on strike after the government allegedly remaining unmoved on their 10-point demands and on this, an indefinite fast began on October 5, which entered the 15th day today.
