Bengal: Police fire teargas shells to disperse violent mob

Kolkata, Apr 8 (UNI) The riot police fired teargas shells after baton charge failed to disperse a violent mob, protesting the Waqf (Amendment) Act in West Bengal's Jangipur area bordering Murshidabad district, official sources said on Tuesday.
The mob allegedly blocked the busy National Highway, pelted stones at the police forces, attacked the police personnel, and set two vehicles on fire.
Police tried to persuade the protesters to clear the NH after about four hours of stalemate but failed.

Shillong, Apr 29 (UNI) Meghalaya Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers vacated from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong campus late Monday night after varsity’s authorities wrote to state authorities to withdraw the security personnel to restore normalcy in the campus, an official said on Tuesday.

Shillong, April 29 (UNI) In a landmark step towards linguistic inclusion and technological advancement, the Meghalaya government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Digital India Bhashini Division of Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for the launch and integration of Garo and Khasi languages into the BHASHINI platform.
