Kerala: CPI-M demands inquiry by sitting judge into Sampath's custodial death

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Telangana Secretary, Johan Wesley on Friday demanded the state government conduct a thorough and impartial inquiry by a sitting judge into the demise of Sampath, who died while in police custody.
Sampath had been taken into custody by the Nizamabad Cyber Crime Police on charges of deceiving unemployed individuals by falsely promising them jobs abroad. While the investigation was ongoing, Sampath suddenly passed away.
His family members have alleged that his death resulted from torture in police custody, claiming that Sampath had serious injuries on his body and that they were not allowed to see him.
Wesley criticised the government's silence on the matter, stating that complicity in custodial torture sends a dangerous message to society. He urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to respond immediately by initiating an inquiry led by a sitting judge. The CPI(M) has demanded strict action against any officias found responsible for Sampath's death. UNI VV SSP
