Abhishek enters record books with 17-ball fifty

Mumbai, Feb 2 (UNI) In a dazzling display of power-hitting, Abhishek Sharma etched his name into the annals of Indian cricket by recording the second-fastest fifty in T20 Internationals for India.
Facing England at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, the youngster reached his half-century in just 17 balls, a feat surpassed only by Yuvraj Singh's iconic 12-ball fifty against the same opposition during the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 in Durban.
Abhishek's explosive innings was instrumental in propelling India to a formidable start, amassing 55 runs for the loss of one wicket within the first four overs. His aggressive approach saw him dispatch England's premier fast bowler, Mark Wood, to all corners of the ground, including a series of boundaries and towering sixes.
This onslaught not only demoralised the English bowling attack but also set the tone for India's commanding performance in the match. This innings further cements Abhishek's rising stature in international cricket.
Since making his debut against Zimbabwe in July 2024, where he scored a maiden T20I century in just his second match, Abhishek has consistently showcased his ability to dominate bowling attacks.
His recent performances against England, including a blistering 79 off 34 balls in the series opener in Kolkata, have drawn praise from cricketing legends and fans alike.
Despite a minor setback when he twisted his ankle during a training session ahead of the second T20I in Chennai, Abhishek's resilience and commitment to the team's cause have been evident. He has continued to play pivotal roles in India's recent successes, contributing significantly both as an opener and a part-time spinner.
As India continues its dominance in the T20 format, the emergence of talents like Abhishek provides a glimpse into a promising future. His blend of aggression, technique, and composure at the crease not only augurs well for his personal career but also adds a new dimension to India's batting arsenal.
With the backing of the team management and the mentorship of seasoned players, Abhishek is poised to become a mainstay in India's cricketing endeavors, potentially rewriting records and setting new benchmarks in the years to come.
